Group EXO members Baekhyun (Byun Baekhyun), Siumin (Kim Minseok), and Chen (Kim Jongdae) notified their agency SM Entertainment of the termination of their exclusive contracts.
On the 1st, lawyer Lee Jae-hak of Lin Law Firm, who served as legal representatives for Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen, issued an official statement on the unfairness of the exclusive contract between them and SM Entertainment.
The legal representative said, "The artists previously sent the contents certification to SM through the legal representative from March 21st to the present, a total of 7 times."
At the same time, he explained, "We have repeatedly requested copies of transparent settlement data and settlement grounds."
The legal representative emphasized, "Requesting an accurate and transparent settlement basis for settlements that have not been clear so far is the least legitimate right of artists, and SM is also obliged to comply with the exclusive contract and the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act."
According to the legal representative, SM Entertainment maintains an unfair position, saying that it cannot provide copies of the data.
The legal representative who notified the termination of the exclusive contract pointed out, "SM has signed long-term contracts with artists that have traditionally lasted over 12 to 13 years."
"They are repeatedly committing extremely unfair tyranny, such as insisting on a long contract period of at least 17 years or more than 18 years by having them sign on the follow-up exclusive contract."
The agent said, “If you include the period of not a little trainee, SM is forcing the artist to sign a so-called slave contract based on its superior position for a period of about 20 years.”
EXO is a representative Korean wave group that debuted in 2012, and the release of a new album this year was announced, but a red light was turned on due to a dispute over an exclusive contract.
